Caguas past Mayor, Honorable William Miranda Marín, had the vision of a school of vanguard with the idea of forming scientists that will guide the economic development of Puerto Rico, based on the knowledge economy. A school where students develop their intellectual, research and development in an environment of technology.
In 2008 the Municipality of Caguas in partnership with INTECO (Eastern Central Technology Initiative, Inc.) construct and inaugurate Specialized School in Science, Mathematics and Technology, CIMATEC.
CIMATEC's philosophy is based on each student is a human being valuable and necessary in a democratic society and as a student they must develop their full potential, in collaboration with parents and faculty members. The school provides positive direction in an academic environment that provides each student with opportunities for their development from a holistic perspective, offering experiences for physical, moral, spiritual, social and intellectual development of young people.
Our teaching center part of a social humanistic vision in the development of a new generation who will assume a role of leadership in the innovation and production of new scientific and technological knowledge in the context of the values and aspiring Puerto Rican people. Each student must be critical, creative and thoughtful and committed to the betterment of society and the principles of solidarity, tolerance, justice, democracy and freedom. The student must also be committed to the preservation of the planet and its natural resources.
The school is a learning community that fosters cooperative learning and which assumes the principles of integration, sequence, consistency, flexibility and relevance as axes of its academic offerings. From these principles, the curriculum provides space for theory, practice and research to build the knowledge necessary for the transformation of society needs and achieving collective and individual purposes.
